I recently sat down with Monica Marin of HarMonica Health Coaching for a Live Blood Cell analysis consultation. I was intrigued by the variety of holistic health services she offers and she agreed to answer a few questions about her health coaching business.

How did you get started in this business?

In 2013, I enrolled in courses at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and began my journey to a healthy life. Once I had finished my schooling at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, I also knew that the knowledge I had gained, and the information which I stood yet to gain with other courses, I could not keep to myself.
This is how I discovered my purpose. I would become someone who people come to when they need help and answers, and I would share what I have learned, and what (after trying it on myself) I know to be true.
Once I came to this realization and set everything into motion, I completed a course in Live Blood Analysis, as well as becoming certified as a Metabolic Balance Coach.

What types of services do you offer?

Health Coaching: I spend time to help my clients figure out what their personal health and wellness issues are, how they intersect and affect them holistically, and I also help them develop strategies to overcome them. I then come up with strategies for weight loss, reducing stress, sleeping better, lowering the risk of chronic diseases through prevention, and creating solid foundations of health and wellness every day!

Metabolic Balance: An innovative, all-natural nutrition program that brings balance to clients’ hormones, optimizes their health, and leads to a new invigorating lifestyle resulting in successful long-term weight management. It is backed by over 25 years of scientific study.

Live Blood Cell Analysis: Live blood work involves magnifying a single drop of live blood, taken from a fingertip prick, and uses higher magnification. The cells of the blood live for at least twenty minutes, and with the aid of a video camera, are observed on a monitor, revealing certain subtleties.

Fermentation Coaching: Gut bacteria speak to our brain in ways that affect our mood, appetite, and digestive health. That’s why I recommend fermented food and drink. Anything from fermenting traditional pickles to making your own kombucha or kimchi (and even if you’re more into kefir and sauerkraut) I will guide you through the process of fermenting at home.

I also offer USANA supplements and advice regarding which supplements are best suited for each client’s specific needs.

Why is metabolic health important?
Good metabolic health makes you less prone to develop serious issues like type 2 diabetes, some cancers, and heart disease—but only a small percentage of Canadians fit that good-health bill. If women are larger in the waist than 35 inches, and men larger than 40 inches, they can develop metabolic syndrome which is a group of problems related to too much weight around the waist, elevated blood pressure, high triglycerides, elevated blood sugar, and low HDL cholesterol. Together this group of health problems increase the risks of heart attacks, stroke, and diabetes.

What can live blood analysis tell you about someone’s health?
The examination of blood cells under a high-magnification microscope can provide a lot of information that one can not normally get from a standard blood test. One method can assess the health of white and red blood cells, while another method of microscopy determines the level of free radical damage. This type of analysis can also establish whether there are enough nutrients in the system through the manner in which the blood cells behave/appear under the microscopic lens. This type of screening is a great motivator to improve diet. You can also use this screening to understand which supplements your system may need in order to improve your health.

Who can benefit from the types of services you offer?
I work with clients looking for preventative measures as well as clients who have already developed some illnesses and/or deficiencies. I offer more general services (like the health coaching) which can address a wider range of health needs (i.e. sleep, spirituality, stress, relationships, and of course nutrition). I also offer services which are more specific to particular cares (such as the live blood cell analysis, metabolic balance, fermentation coaching, and advice regarding supplements). My clients deserve a tailored health program because no one plan will work for everyone.

Do you have any special events coming up?

I am active at local expositions. In the fall, I will have a booth at the Quantum Healing Expo at Unity Church (October 19) as well as at the KW Health Expo at Bingemans(October 26).
